Sport Centre
The Unitec Sports Centre provides a variety of sporting programmes. It offers training facilities for all ages and fitness levels, from beginners to professional athletes. The centre offers a fully equipped Hammer Strength-certified weight room and a cardio area, which features a variety of Life Fitness equipment, from treadmills to cross-trainers and spin bikes. You can choose one of our many yoga, Pilates and group fitness classes, or join a walking/running group. We offer a sunbed, massage, advice on nutrition and a comprehensive range of nutritional supplements.
All students are entitled to significantly reduced membership prices.

National Squash Centre
The National Squash Centre provides the first ever home for squash in New Zealand. It is a joint venture between Squash New Zealand, Squash Auckland and Unitec.
Open to the general public, the centre offers six squash courts that are ideal for all levels, from beginners to professionals. Because of the centre’s movable wall technology, the single courts can be transformed into double courts or be used for other indoor sports.
You can hire squash shoes, racquets or balls at reasonable prices or buy them from the centre’s fully equipped shop.
The Management now is under the control of New Zealand Representive Trevor Colyer,Trevor has won numerous squash titles around the World and is a Former World Masters Champion.
Other Recreational Activities In and Around Campus
- There’s a full-size soccer field with netted goals located in between Accommodation and Language Studies (bldg 170).
- The Unitec campus has a walking track which runs along the Oakley Creek. Maps available at the Sports Centre.
- The North Western Motorway cycling track skirts Building 1 and the Great North Road motorway on ramp.
- Pt Chevalier Beach is just a short stroll from the Mt Albert campus. Out west you have Piha, Muriwai, Bethell’s and Cornwallis, and over the harbour bridge is Takapuna Beach.
- The Philips Aquatic Centre is a short drive from the Mt Albert campus if you want a dip in an indoor-wave pool. For Waitakere students, West Wave is oh-so-close to your campus, and kitted out with a hydroslide, sauna, steam room, spa, gym, swim shop and café!
