Special Assessment Circumstances
Special Assessment Circumstances (“SAC”)
SAC is available for students whose performance in summative assessments (e.g. tests, exams, assignments and labs) is affected by factors beyond their control.
For tests, or examinations, “affected” may mean that you are unable to attend at the assigned time or you are not performing at your full capacity. It may also mean that you are unable to hand the assignment in on time or you meet the deadline but not whilst performing at your full capacity.
Factors beyond the control of student relates to unforseen situations. Examples of this include sickness to the student (including spouse or children) or bereavement.
An “SAC” form needs to be filled out. This is available from your Department’s Administration Office.
Except in exceptional circumstances, the application needs to be filled out within five working days (does not include weekends, public holidays and Unitec holidays)
If your application is approved various methods may be used to ensure your marks are not affected. This includes;
- Receiving an extension on an assignment;
- Completing the test or an equivalent one at another time; or
- Estimating the mark you may have received (based on previous assessments in that paper)
