SUPER CITY – For Dummies!
On 17 September 2011, the first of thousands of protestors set up home in Manhattan’s Financial District in New York City. They pitched tents, displayed protest signs, and completely occupied the area. The movement has since spread worldwide, and over 1,500 cities have active occupied sites. Accordingly, In Unison took a trip down to the Occupy Auckland site to explore exactly what was going on.
In Unison teamed up with the freshly launched entertainment hub, EntertainMe to create the ultimate gig guide for your summer experience! EntertainMe has got the low down on all of the anticipated events around the Auckland area, and they’ve narrowed down the best festivals/parties/concerts to spend your time and money on this summer. This gig guide has got something for everyone! Whether you’re looking for a New Years Eve extravaganza or keen for a low key local event, In Unison and EntertainMe have got you covered! Kia ora tatou, When I reflect on 2011, I feel it is a year that has brought New Zealand closer together. In February, the lives of many were changed forever with the tragic Canterbury earthquake. From disaster, we witnessed the true spirit of communities shining through as friends, families, neighbours, colleagues and strangers rallied around one another to gain strength and carry on. More recently, the Rugby World Cup has given us an opportunity to celebrate together and show what we as a nation are capable of delivering to the world. By: Nathan Calis Forwards: Props John Afoa – Afoa maintains his place in the All Blacks off the back of a great campaign with the Blues. He is unlikely to get much game time, acting as a backup to the other props. Ben Franks – Despite playing second fiddle to the in-form Wyatt Crockett in the Crusader’s pack, the All Blacks clearly still see Ben Franks as the better prop. Owen Franks – Coming off an excellent season with the Crusaders, there were no doubts the stoic prop would make the team. By: Nathan Calis The 2007 Rugby World Cup (RWC) is one most Kiwis would probably like to forget. The heart-breaking loss to the French in Cardiff highlighted yet another world cup failure for the All Blacks. Nathan Calis now reflects on that failed campaign, and compares it to the current crusade towards holding the Web Ellis Cup. Rest and Rotation The Queen’s Wharf by the Viaduct is the official “fan Zone” for 2011 Rugby World Cup. All of the excitement and events in the past week have caused quite a stir around Auckland. It’s hard to sort out what is happening where, and which is your best fit for Rugby festivities. So whether you’re keen to get involved in some downtown fun, or discover a low key alternative to enjoy the Rugby, In Unison has got you covered.
