Breakout Database
BreakOut is the database of awards, scholarships and grants for people in New Zealand.
This database will help you find the funding schemes relevant to you and what you want to do.
BreakOut has scholarships for school, polytechnic or travel grants; sports and arts schemes; personal grants; personal development funds; academic and non-academic funding. Breakout is free to access from any computer at Unitec. Click here for more info.
Study Awards
If you’re enrolled in a Unitec programme, you may be able to take $2,000 off your student fees. Unitec offers a large number of Study Awards to prospective and current students. To be eligible for a Unitec Study Award you must be a current Unitec student, or have applied for enrolment in a full-time, full-year Unitec programme. You will be at an advantage if you’re enrolled in a diploma or degree-level programme.
Applications for 2012 Study Awards are open from 17 November 2011 and close 15 Feb 2012
Selection Criteria
The following factors will be considered for all applications:
- Community involvement
- Equity/diversity objectives for Maori, Pacific peoples, refugees and students with disabilities
- Financial need
- Academic achievement
- Programme of study

Financial Advice and Assistance
Tania Clarke from West Auckland Budgeting Service will be available to support students with budgeting advice for two days each week. Tania will be working on-site in the Student Wellbeing Building (bldg. 28) on Tuesdays from 10-2, and on Fridays from 10-2.
You can get help with:
- Drafting a budget, debt schedule and cashflow
- Negotiating with creditors
- Making sure you are receiving entitlements through Work & Income or Studylink
- Networking resources
- Budgeting advice
- Finalising budget and cashflow
