Counselling

Counsellors offer confidential assistance to students with personal and academic concerns to help them overcome barriers to their success.

Counselling is a process of talking about your concerns, with the aim of bringing about some change in the way you are experiencing your life. Maori and Pasifika counsellors are also available.

Counselling can help with:

  •  Anxiety and stress
  • Anger and conflict
  •  Depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Changes and worries
  • Cultural or identity issues
  • Abuse and trauma
  • Sexuality and sexual orientation
  •  Drugs and alcohol
  • Family or relationship issues
  • Decision making and goal setting

Our team of qualified and experienced counsellors (both women and men) have a wide range of professional skills and come from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Time and cost

Each session is usually 50 to 60 minutes long. For many people one session is all they need, others may need considerably more. Counselling is free for all Unitec students.
