Wireless Internet on Campus

Unitec students can connect their own wireless devices (laptops, smartphones, iPads) to our free Wi-Fi hotspots while on campus.

A map of Wi-Fi hotspots, and instructions on how to connect your device are available on Ask I.T's website.

Discounted Microsoft Software for Students

Unitec students can purchase Microsoft software for their personal computers for a significant discount through lapshop you'll just need to have your student ID handy to make the purchase.

Computer Facilities

The Student Computer Centre has a range of modern computers which all students can access

Location: Bldg 180, rm 1034 (Mt Albert), Bldg 520 (Waitakere)  

Hours: Mon-Thurs 8.00am - 9.00pm, Fri 8.00am -5.00pm, Weekends 9.00am – 4.00pm (Mt Albert only)

Free Computing Courses

Unitec run Free4U computer courses which are free and offer a great way to get into computing. You can start from scratch with the introductory First Steps course or, if you already have some basic computing knowledge, develop skills in a range of popular computer programs. Each course is designed so that you can move from one level to the next, allowing you to develop knowledge as your confidence and skills grow.

The friendly instructors will be on hand to assist you throughout and will provide you with resource books and notes to take home. There are no exams and no pressure – start at the level that suits you and complete each course over 10 weeks:

* Free4U First Steps in Computing (10 x 90 minute sessions)

* Getting Started (10 x 90 minute sessions)

These courses are designed for the complete beginner.

* Free4U Computer Programs (12 x 90 minute sessions)

These courses are designed for anyone who has a basic computer knowledge and wants to update or learn new skills.

* Introduction to Keyboarding

* Introduction to Word Processing – Part 1

* Introduction to Word Processing – Part 2

* Introduction to Microsoft Publishing

* Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint

* Introduction to Email and the Internet

* Introduction to Excel Spreadsheets

* Introduction to Microsoft Access
