Tiki Taane is known hugely in the NZ music industry and is popular for his dedication to dub music. After leaving Salmonella Dub in 2007 and going solo in his music career, and after a long-anticipated wait since his first album: “Past, Present, Future”, Tiki released his second album at the start of March – “In The World Of Light”.

With a son who is now 2, and a great music career ahead of him, Tiki has created a masterpiece containing 14 tracks; each one containing its own angle and meaning to Tiki himself. This includes a song with his son, and a song dedicated purely to Christchurch. In the CD booklet he strongly points out that the album is overall dedicated to his partner Laurie Rose and 2 year old son Charlie Te Marama.

At just 19 months, Charlie actually helped Tiki with his music. In the track “Chico”, you hear Tiki Taane collaborate with his son. Not only has Tiki’s son contributed, huge musical artists such as Drum n Bass legends Concard Dawn, the amazing Hollie Smith, Bulletproof, and more collaborated on tracks with Tiki for this album. This album relates to his current fans and also new fans. It shows his dedication to his music in that each and every song is inspiring and has a strong meaning to his life.

There is a strong difference between albums you can listen to start to finish and albums that you need to skip a few tracks to get to the good ones. I can safely say this album is the type that you can listen to throughout. If I were to skip one, it would be the track, “La Bicha Dub”, featuring a Spanish artist named Bebe. Tiki produces the beat and she sings in full Spanish, making it harder to get up and sing to!

Overall, “In the World of Light” is an album that can be listened to at any occasion. It has both upbeat tracks and mellow ones which balanc out the album, while bringing a great dub sound to your ears. From one Tiki Taane fan to another, I can honestly say if you liked his first album you will definitely love this one!
