EVOLP are Unitec student Matthew Moore and his mates Sam Slaughter and Andrew Cesan (creative aliases Terbo, Caset and Lapse respectively). Produced by Chris Mac-Jones, their recent EP Chromatic release features nine tracks in a neat 29 minutes of fresh hip-hop rap with a definite kiwi influence and an honest, articulate voice.
As the year begins to wind up, the 13th Chillout Sessions album lets you wind back down into your happy place. The ethereal mix of alternative, folk/electro pop funk makes for a luxurious sound sure to keep you begging for more. Perfect as a soundtrack whilst driving, recovering on hung-over Sundays, lying beside the pool and generally transporting yourself to anywhere but here. The effortless, soulful mix has been carefully constructed with a variety of different genres that come together quite seamlessly.

Tiki Taane is known hugely in the NZ music industry and is popular for his dedication to dub music. After leaving Salmonella Dub in 2007 and going solo in his music career, and after a long-anticipated wait since his first album: “Past, Present, Future”, Tiki released his second album at the start of March – “In The World Of Light”.
I think the easiest way to review this album by Auckland band/duo/not sure Come Down Kid is to do a brief track-by-track analysis then summarise my overall thoughts.
So. This is maybe a conflict of interest. Darian Woods is one half of this Christchurch duo and he is also a friend of mine. I don't think it matters though, as the quality of this release sort of transcends friendships and things like that. This is so good that you could be listening to it, and your least favourite person could also be listening too it, and you'd both admit that you like it and probably bond or something.
This is quite hard to review. I didn't like it. I thought it was bad. Here's a list of 10 observations about it:
North Shore Pony Club
Aaron and Matt form The North Shore Pony club, a cross-genre, 80s disco, white and gold trash dance group. They are busy guys, travelling all over the world and performing at festivals up and down New Zealand. Amongst all that they somehow manage to fit a talk show into their busy schedule every Friday night at BFM called Ping Pong Pony. In Unison chatted to the guys about the best of the 80s and Aja Rock.
Kidz In Space
Kidz In Space (Ashley Hughes, Mat Neshat and Josh Fountain) landed on the earthy music scene at the 2009 Big Day Out and have been putting their intergalactic sound out on NZ radio waves ever since, recently taking out the My Space peoples choice award for best dance/elektronica group. In Unison chatted to the group about the band’s reclusive behaviour and their impractical spaceship.
