Whitireia Polytechnic Students' Association is under fire from the mainstream media over a police investigation looking into the disappearance of $1 Million missing from their accounts.
Police began investigations after it was revealed in early august that around $750,000 was missing from the Auckland based students’ association (WISA) in 2009.
The latest, in the string of allegations, is that almost $250,000, paid by Whitireia Polytechnic to the students' association this year, has vanished.
The association also owes $139,000, including a $26,000 phone bill. The association is now open to the threat of prosecution and fines as their tax and GST returns have not been completed.
Angry students demanded that the current student executive, elected in March and April, stand down.
The student president in 2009 Loretta Ryder has stood down.
Ryder has said that she wanted police to investigate so she could clear her name.
