STUDENTS VOTE FOR UNITEC’S LECTURER OF THE YEAR

Susan White of the Department of Nursing was officially named the Unitec student’s top lecturer for 2011 in the USU and Unitec official Lecturer of the Year poll.

Susan’s 2011 award marks the fifth time she has been named Lecturer of the Year at Unitec. She took home the award in 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011!

    Revenue minister Peter Dunne has continued his crackdown on New Zealand’s growing student loan debt problem, tabling new legislation in parliament earlier this month.

    The new legislation will make it mandatory for borrowers to provide a New Zealand-based contact person when applying for repayment holidays.

    Mature and part-time students all around the country are furious after Bill English’s budget aims to make government savings at the expense of cutting their loans.

    The National government’s 2011 budget, which they released last month, indicates changes to loan eligibility that are set to save millions of dollars in a ploy to get the country out of debt.

    One of the changes that has angered students is the move to make students over the age of 55 ineligible to receive the living costs component of the student loan.

    Student Voting Enrolment for 2011 Elections

    Enrolment for the 2011 Parliamentary election is now open. Currently, there are 273, 915 people already enrolled as “students”, making the student bracket the second most populated group for enrolment, just behind “retired”. Therefore, there will be a great deal of representation from student voice in this year in the election.
