A group of six ambitious architecture students from Unitec will embark on an exciting trip this Thursday.
Arnika Blount, Courtney Smith-Frank, Elfie Hamilton, Marcus Richardson, Sam Morris, and Gabriel (Gab) Fung will be accompanied by Mark Mismash of the the Architecture programme on their epic humanitarian trip to Haiti. Architecture for Humanity has teamed up with the Unitec Architecture programme in organising a group of motivated students to visit the wreckage sites from the 2010 Haiti earthquakes. There, the students will work within the community on architecture rebuilding projects. These projects are intended make over the wreckage sites as well as educate the locals with utilisable skills and knowledge to apply for jobs and rebuild their economy.
In Unison met up with the students during their last week in NZ to ask a few last minute questions. There was a general feeling of anticipation and excitement surrounding the trip. The group will be away for nearly a month, returning just before Christmas. Here’s what they had to say just before they left:
