GUILTY!

Guilty Pleasures are so much fun. They reveal both the best and the worst of ourselves. It is difficult to escape those sinful temptations when they stare you straight in the face. Then, the residual markings that they leave on your soul and ego do not help the healing process. As much as we try to deny it, we all have a guilty pleasure. In honour of asking many of you to reveal your own personal guilty pleasures for the world to scoff at and enjoy, I find it necessary to share some of my own.

Glitter: I like things that sparkle. I know this subtracts about 15 years from my actual age, but I just cannot help it. I especially like pink glitter. Sometimes I buy nonsense accessories just because they are covered in glitter.  GUILTY

Excessively tacky animal print: I don’t actually enjoy animal print spread across my living room or anything like that; I just enjoy it in small annoying doses in unexpected places. In high school, I was a bit of a mathematics nerd. In my calculus class I actually covered my graphing calculator in cheetah print tape. Needless to say, no one ever tried to steal it. GUILTY

The Jersey Shore: For some reason I cannot control myself from watching this horribly trashy TV show. I think I find pleasure in watching these excessively drunk people make absolute spectacles of themselves. Or maybe I subconsciously wish I could be as crispy tan as Snookie….nahhhh….. GUILTY

Watching people fail at things publicly: Seriously, this is so mean….but it’s true, and the more public, the BETTER. Sometimes, I Youtube “fail” just to watch innocent unsuspecting people doing things very badly. I think I laugh harder at public failures than just about anything else. Add in some sort of minor injury in the process—and I’m done for.  GUILTY

Straight up Chocolate:  Chocolate is God’s gift to human kind. I love chocolate. Among my favourite forms are: Chocolate covered peanuts, Chocolate bunnies, Chocolate Ice cream, Chocolate molten cake, Cadbury Chocolate, Whitakers Chocolate, The Chocolate Boutique, Chocolate Chip Cookies…the list can go on, but I will spare you….Chocolate! GUILTY

These are all things I am not particularly proud of, but admittedly indulge in from time to time.  Sometimes guilty pleasures can be a good gauge for who your friends are. For instance, if I were to find another secretly cynical, chocolate loving jersey shore fan, I might have to dub that person my new best friend. The best thing about guilty pleasures is that the guilt is only skin deep. It’s not the type of guilt that haunts you as you’re going to sleep at night. Guilty pleasures are just funny little enticements in life that keep everyone shamefully coming back for more.
