Guest Blog: Philippa Brown
Philippa Brown spent a year in Canada working as a ski and snowboard instructor in the Rockies and as a zip line guide in Whistler.
If you are into rock climbing you possibly already know that there’s a little town called Squamish along Canada’s Sea to Sky highway which runs from Vancouver to the mountain town of Whistler.

We asked a panel of people at Unitec some questions about Unitec
We all have our preferred methods of travelling: walking, bikes, cars and planes, etc. Some we experience on a day-to-day basis and will have done so for a long time. Others you may not have had the pleasure of acquainting yourself with yet.

Hey there friends, are you well? I should certainly hope so! The weather is intermittently getting warmer which is sweet. I actually wore sunglasses for the first time in months on Saturday (and not just because I was mildly hung-over). Waking up that morning was actually pretty funny – glad no-one was there - I was having this dream where I was swimming in a pool of marshmallows… You know, chewing my way about inside it and stuff… Woke up to find I had chewed a hole in my sleeping bag – gutz…

Kia ora everyone!
OK, Sex… it had to come up between us sooner or later, right? There are so many puns, so much innuendo and so many weird stories that I actually have no idea where to start. I could talk about sex with regards to gender differences: the whole ‘battle of the sexes’ thing. But honestly, it’s a bit overdone. Likewise, I’ll try to avoid too many cliché jokes, you’ve heard it all I’m sure…

Not exactly time for sunglasses and Piña Coladas on the beach; winter is settling into its cloudy rocking chair and shouting from its porch with discontent at any passers-by and initiating shivers and goose-pimples along the arms of anyone (yes me) silly enough to walk around in a T-shirt.

Kia ora, everyone!
Welcome back to all re-enrolled students and welcome to the party for all those of you with your tertiary lives kicking into gear for the first time this semester! Might I be the first to congratulate you on your decision to study here. Make the most of the experience, meet as many new faces as you can and if you have any trouble, My door is always open.

Kiaora Unitec!
I have always firmly believed that I’m absolutely capable of doing any amount of work. The trouble is, usually it’s not the work that I should be doing, when I should be doing it. I never really procrastinated in the traditional student way to be honest (which to my knowledge usually involves drinking games and packets of Mi Goreng).

Kia ora Unitec!
How many musicians does it take to screw in a light-bulb? Just one, he lies face-up on his bed holding the bulb and the room spins in a scenic haze of bright colours around him “whoooooahh”.

Kia ora and welcome to the transport issue of In Unison, glad you could make it.
To the disbelief of many of my close friends, I actually find public transport to be rather nice – in particular busses. I think of them like a really cheap limousine – a sort of ‘stretch-van’ - which just happens to be dirty and late most of the time. I have often recommended to bus-drivers that they consider wearing suits and caps. I am yet to have any takers but rest assured I’ll keep trying. If you ever see a bus driver wearing a suit, I only ask that you smile and think of me.

Kia Ora guys and gals!
This is a particularly tricky column to write I must say. Trying to make “money-issues” readable and somewhat entertaining is a lot like trying to nail jelly to a tree. Perplexing. Even after you’ve succeeded you find yourself thinking: “Why did I bother doing that? Jelly and trees just aren’t meant to be together…”
Combining finance and comedy is really a bit of a perversion of nature... unless of course, you’re the government*BAM!*
Welcome, everyone, to the inaugural online only issue of In Unison! More »
