He appeared on the music scene in 2008 with his debut single ‘I Can Fly’, yet he hasn’t been seen around since. However, he is far from being a one hit wonder. Since his debut, he has transformed from little known artist to one of the biggest and best producers New Zealand has ever known. He has worked alongside some of NZ’s hottest acts, created the ‘Geeking’ movement and has big plans to take over the centre stage. I sat down to chat with Daniel Love aka DLove, who told me he’s back and doing better than ever...
When I came out with the song I didn't have the backing that I wanted, like a manager, promoters and marketers. I didn't understand how to do that, so I basically went straight to radio with my song and it did really well, but I ended up having nothing to show for it. So I decided to learn more about the music industry and the business side of things so that I would do better next time.
Haha! I ask them if they have auto tune... but usually they don't so I just lip sync.
I love NZ music and the typical sound that we have. The music industry is always changing and NZ is in its own league. We have our own style but even that is changing constantly. I think in years to come, NZ music will transform into something incredible.
'Skinny Jeans' will be released in May for NZ Music month. If you want though you can request it on Mai Fm or listen to it on You Tube, the audio is already up. I love skinny jeans and I wear them all the time... they reflect a new generation movement and so I wrote a song about it. The clip is going to be one of a kind, so watch out for it!
Chris Brown - Wet the Bed... haha. I like the beat! New Boyz - Backseat Driver & B.E.P - Just Can't Get Enough. (DLove: boy I think about it every niiiight & daaay...)
I'm currently working on my album which I hope to have finished by the end of the year. It's a really busy time because I'm working on a few other peoples albums at the moment too, but it's a secret! Haha... I'm also considering creating a TV show. You can always keep up to date with me through Facebook, and if you or anyone you know wants to get in touch with me about music then send me an email!
