Write a letter to the editor, send it to inunison@unitec.ac.nz and win one of KFC’s new Choc Berry Krushers! Read on for more information!
In my little corner of the Mt Albert campus, In the USU offices, I hang around making In Unison every few weeks or so. I live for mail day (usually a Wednesday) when all the other student magazines from up and down the country arrive at my desk.
However, the initial novelty of mail always wears off and turns into disappointment when I see the full Letters pages other mags have. Some even have THREE pages worth of letters.
Apathy is alive and well at Unitec. In my six months in the Editor position I have received a total of ONE letter to the Editor. It complained about the shuttle service, I expected a tone of replies, letters of agreement, and letters of disagreement. But no.
Did you realise Barbie has been using naughty words? Or that a few weeks ago we published a cartoon mocking those paedophiles in the Catholic Church? Did that not piss any Catholics off? And I repeatedly throw in snide remarks about vegetarians, I know you’re out there at Waitakere, stand up for yourselves!
We have a few weeks of exams and holidays before the first In Unison issue of next semester comes out. I would love a letters page. The first 25 (genuine) letters received will win a Choc Berry Krusher from KFC !
It’s not that hard, you don’t have to post it. You can email it. If you take the time to comment on the website why not copy paste it into a email? You can bitch about anything really, except for racism. (That’s not cool, it’s not going to win you any prizes.) If you have a problem with something at Unitec, something with In Unison, or USU, something with Waterview, The Village - whatever - then write! And it doesn’t have to be negative: If you think your tutor is awesome, or that the shuttle drivers do a great job, or that those coffee cart ladies rock your socks, then let us know.
Letters should be 250 words or less. You MUST include your real name, phone number and address so we don’t get sued (we won’t print your contact details or name if you don’t want us to). We won’t spell-check it, but we might edit, abridge, or decline* it without explanation. (*See above about racism not being cool.)
email them to Amanda Haxton inunison@unitec.ac.nz
