I missed an exam or assessment because of sickness/family bereavement etc. What should I do?

Unitec calls this situation Special Assessment Circumstances or SAC. The Programme Administrator or Director will give you a form that you have to return to the Programme Director’s office no later than 5 working days (except in exceptional circumstances) after the due date. You must include documents (such as a medical certificate) as evidence. The content and date of the document(s) must indicate why your academic performance was affected.

Unitec’s Counselling Centre and Health Centre provide acceptable certificates.

Can I apply for SAC if I still sit the exam or hand in the assessment?

Yes. If you feel your performance was affected you can still apply for SAC.

What should I do if I can’t write my exam because of injury?

Contact Unitec’s Disability Support Office on 815 4321 ext 8606.

I just can’t get along with another student or staff member and my studies are being adversely affected. What should I do?

Unitec employs a Conciliator to ensure that all members of the Unitec family resolve their differences as harmoniously as possible and gain all they can from their time at Unitec. Email conciliator@unitec.ac.nz or phone 815 4321 ext 7339.

I have been refused entry into a programme. Can I appeal this decision?

You can try, but it is not straightforward. See the Student Advocate in Building 180 (The Hub) or email usuadvocate@unitec.ac.nz
