ADVOCACY

Mt Albert:
The USU Student Issues Advocates can help with academic issues such as unfair assessments, difficult lecturers or accusations of plagiarism. The Advocate offers advice and works with Unitec’s Academic Board to protect the quality of your education. Our Advocates can also arrange Q&A sessions with a lawyer for free legal advice on flatting, employment law, etc.

BANKING

Mt Albert:
A National Bank branch is located on campus for all your banking needs. The National Bank ATM outside is available 24/7 and there is also an ASB ATM in the Hub.

Waitakere and North Shore:

All major providers are within easy walking distance and offer full facilities.

 

BUSES

Full-time students can obtain a MAXX sticker to get discounted rides on public buses from Student Central.
Mt Albert:

Unitec provides free shuttle buses around the campus. These follow a circuit around the Mount Albert campus every 15 to 20 minutes, and can be flagged down en route. Wheelchair access can be provided on request. More information on the Shuttle Bus serivce.

Waitakere:

Unitec provides a free shuttle service between the Mt Albert and Waitakere campuses.  Timetables and routes are posted on classroom and common-room noticeboards.

 

BOOKSHOP

Mt Albert:
Unitec’s bookshop in the Hub offers prescribed text books along with a range of stationery, graphic, art and office supplies.

The careers centre offers a range of services to students, such as career planning, job hunting, interview advice and employment opportunities. Students can arrange individual appointments, attend scheduled workshops or simply visit the drop-in centre.  More information about the career centre.

Unitec’s Chaplaincy offers personal support and spiritual guidance to students and staff of all faiths and beliefs (or none). Catholic Mass is available in the Unitec Chapel, Building 162 and there is a Salaat Hall for Muslim prayer.

CHILDCARE

Mt Albert:
Unitec offers three childcare centres on campus for staff and students. All centres are located near Gate 4 off Carrington Rd.

Te Puna Reo o Wairaka
This Maori language early childhood centre delivers high-quality early childhood education through immersion in te reo Maori me nga tikanga. Care is available for six-months through to children aged six years.

COMPUTERS

Mt Albert:
Internet access is available for student’s right across the campus, with bench top kiosks, drop-in labs in Building 1 and 180 and a campus-wide wireless network for laptops. Both libraries and the computer centre in Building 180 are equipped with scanning and printing facilities.

Unitec’s Student Funding and Student Engagement Manager provides financial advice, assistance and support to Unitec students with a one-stop-shop of funding opportunities for Unitec students, including internal (Unitec Study Awards) and external community funding.

HARRASSMENT

All students have the right to be treated with fairness, dignity and respect. Sexual or racial harassment of any person is not acceptable at Unitec and Unitec will not tolerate any action or inaction, communication or behaviour that constitutes sexual or racial harassment. HEALTHCARE

Mt Albert:
The Student Health Centre on campus provides a comprehensive medical service for all students. Doctors are available from 9am - 3pm all weekdays except Wednesday when they are available from 8am - 2pm nurses are available at all other times. The Health Centre is not open on the weekend.  More information about Clinic 41.

Unitec’s Postgraduate Centre offers a dedicated physical space for study, teaching and discussion and provides academic advice, resources and administrative services for students and staff involved in postgraduate research. The centre also facilitates workshops on topics related to postgraduate research and supervision. Unitec security staff operate from the Safety and Security Centre and can be identified by their uniforms and/or identification cards.  Security also house any lost property on campus. Local community constables liaise with the Centre and are happy to assist students and staff.  Please do not hesitate to report any suspicious activities to the USU or any Unitec staff member.

In Unison is a free fortnightly student magazine published by the USU and available across all three campuses. It’s edited independently from both Unitec and USU, meaning that it can report honestly and objectively on both organisations. STUDENT JOB SEARCH (SJS)

Student Job Search is a free service, funded by the Government and local Students' Associations, for putting students into work while they study. Student Job Search can help you find summer vacation work and temporary or part-time work while you study. While the process is online and automated, the USU reception in the Hub offers a computer kiosk and phone bank.  More information about SJS.

TRAINS

A train service runs regularly from Britomart to Waitakere return with several stops on the Western route including Britomart, Newmarket, Kingsland, Mt Albert, New Lynn, Henderson, Ranui, Swanson and Waitakere. Unitec periodically operates a shuttle service between the Mt Albert campus and the nearest station, while the Henderson station is an easy five-minute walk from the Waitakere campus. Waitakere students can obtain timetables and purchase discounted tickets from Student Central
